about

Thanks to all the DJ's, podcasters and reviewers for giving my music a chance to be heard. Thanks to Andy Reed and Jesse Ryan for their invaluable help in getting the album done. Family, friends and fans...you're the best! As always...all my love to Susannah Lea.

"Ed has an unmistakable sound of his own but puts the accents slightly differently on each record...the high quality of the songs, to which we have become so accustomed, is assured throughout. Ed still sings like Sting's brother; his guitar solos are sharp and hard, his melodies are pure and straightforward, and his lyrics dig a little deeper. I'm not kidding; I'm an Ed Ryan fan"
Patrick Donders, Sweet Sweet Music Blog

"Don't Follow Where They Lead" is...another celebration of melody in a variety of fun jaunty styles. First on my agenda are the straight ahead pop rock gems. Album opener "Anytown" sets the tone with jangly guitars and hooky descending bass lines...the choppy rhythm guitar and those distinctive early 1980's vocals driving "Biggest Fan". Another fun pop confection "Maybe I'm Dreaming"...but the obvious should-be hit for me is the sneaky earworm "Everyone Wonders". Ryan shakes things up tempo and style-wise on the mellow John Waite-ish title track..the hepcat shuffle defining "Fish In The Sea..the piano line weaving through the chorus of "Made Me"adds extra allure..the guitar tension Ryan creates on "Why Doncha Do It" only to serve up a glorious release in the chorus. The album also includes a few delightful slower numbers like "What's True" and "So Far Away". Altogether," Don't Follow Where They Lead" is another winner from Ed Ryan.

"Last year's Even Time was one of the best albums of 2020. Now, Ed gives us Don't Follow Where They Lead, another collection of guitar driven gems. Anytown gets the jangle fest off to a great start...Hollow Man may be my favorite track on Don't Follow...with a monster hook of a chorus and Ed's wonderful guitars, this track alone is worth the price of admission. Ed's latest is sure to impress the power pop enthusiast and continues his run of impressive, guitar driven albums."
